20 Unique Acts of Kindness Ideas for Women
In honor of Random Acts of Kindness Day and Random Acts of Kindness Week, I want to share 20 unique acts of kindness ideas for women to show you how you can make someone’s day better this week! I’ve always heard that there are several benefits to being kind, compassionate, and caring including a boost in self-esteem, a happier lifestyle, a longer life, and well, that it’s also good for your heart! I have to say that I agree. Some of you may have already thought of some daily activities like allowing someone into your lane while driving, sharing chocolate or candy with a friend, or holding a door open for the person behind you. Some take these for granted, although they should never go unnoticed.
Here are some unique ideas that you may not have thought about. Let’s make this world a little brighter wherever we go.
How to show kindness to animals
Buy or make a birdhouse for your backyard and fill it with bird feed. My husband made three for our backyard; we love to see and hear beautiful birds enjoying the space!
Foster an animal until they get adopted. I did this for multiple puppies before my second husband and I got married. I enjoyed every second of it (except that one time I found puppies chewing up the kitchen laminate!) And yes, I got attached and cried like a baby when they left. Eventually, they turned to happy tears because they found their forever home!
Pick up trash in the river, lakes, and oceans. There is so much waste in our beautiful water that endangers all creatures big and small. When you see cans or plastic on your next boat ride or beach walk, please pick it up and throw it away.
How to show kindness to strangers
Donate used sweaters, jackets or blankets to a shelter nearby. Every year I donate clothes to a women’s shelter or church ministry. Sometimes I’ll take my clothes to a consignment shop to see what they’ll sell for, and then whatever they don’t accept, I’ll donate. If you think about it, half the time the consignment shop is too picky and doesn’t choose but a handful of items anyway, and if you do sell a dress or a shirt, it’s only for a few dollars. Did you know that you can change a stranger’s life by donating used items that are in good condition? There are times when I pass the consignment store altogether, simply because I know there are so many women and families in need.
Leave change for the next person at the gas station. I always appreciate it when the clerk says she has an extra nickel!
Write a thank-you note. I know not everyone has time to write long, gushy notes and letters, but a simple “thank you for always bringing my mail, rain or shine” to the mail woman can go a long way! You can also buy or make thank you cards if you are short on time, or if you don’t love your handwriting. You can find these at Hobby Lobby, Target, or online. This little book of Happy Notes from Natural Life are some of the best! I also love the poster book version seenhere.
Leave a sticky note in a library book. You can use the same ideas from above or add notes with your favorite quotes from that book with a short and sweet note telling a stranger to “have a great day!”
Donate to a charity. My favorite charity is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can make a donation here, or choose your favorite charity.
Compliment a stranger. You can do so much just by telling someone their shoes are pretty, or they have a beautiful smile. It’s only creepy if you make it creepy!
When you are shopping at Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com . You can choose a charity of your choice to receive .5% of your purchase. There are tons of products on AmazonSmile that are eligible for donations. You’ll see products marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on their product detail pages.
How to show kindness to friends and family
Send positive vibes to their inbox. Lift a friend’s spirits by sending her an email or sharing a Facebook post to her inbox!
Comment on their social posts. Whether it’s to congratulate them, compliment them, or tell them they are awesome, they are going to appreciate it!
Help out around the house. I’m telling you right now – no one loves doing dishes or cleaning up after dinner. However, I absolutely love it when my husband lends a hand and helps me put the dirty dishes up. I offer him my assistance out in the yard, or when he is working on a manly project. It’s the little things!!
Shop local. When you have friends that own their own business, it’s a necessity to support them, even if it’s in small ways. Whether you are shopping or referring your friends, they are going to appreciate it!
Write a positive comment on someone’s website or blog. How many times have you clicked on a link in Pinterest to find that it directs you to a blog with recipes or a how-to post? Leave some positive feedback for the author and tell them how much you love their thought/idea! It will make their day.
How to show kindness to co-workers
Endorse a skill for someone on LinkedIn. I always appreciate the time it takes for someone to recommend me or verify that I strive for both high patient satisfaction and excellent customer service! It’s always great to network and build relationships, and strive for more at work. Having a little support never hurt either!
Bake something. Who doesn’t love cookies, brownies, or cake?? If you don’t, we can’t be friends. Seriously though, I’m thinking about making my co-workers cinnamon rolls this week…stay tuned to my Instagram to see how that turns out!
Compliment someone. I’m always doting on someone’s fabulous shoes, colorful skirt, or their fresh out of the dry shampoo hair. Imagine if you heard two compliments every day of the week. You would be on cloud 9!! SO if everyone complimented their co-workers, imagine what kind of work atmosphere that would be like…pretty awesome!
Give credit where it’s due. How many times has a co-worker helped you out with a patient/customer, made you an excel template that made your work-life more enjoyable, or filled in for you while you took a vacation? Tell them how much you appreciate them and compliment them in front of your boss.
Give hugs, high fives, or pats on the back. Tell your co-workers you appreciate them and congratulate them on jobs well done. Did you know that studies show hugs and positive feedback increases an individual’s positive attitude AND strengthens relationships? As Olaf once said, “I like warm hugs!”
