Three Ways to Overcome FEAR

 


 

Have you ever wanted to make a decision, chase a dream, or change your career, but you kept talking yourself out of it?

Maybe you said something like this:

You: What I am doing is not my passion. I don’t enjoy coming to work. However, Jessica (random name!) is really rocking her career as a food stylist (yes, that’s a real thing!) That job is a dream come true – I want to do that. 

You again: I’m not qualified. No one would ever work with me. Should I even waste my time? It’s impossible. I don’t have what it takes. 

SO instead of trusting yourself and having self-confidence, you are choosing to miss out on something life-altering just becau

se you don’t have faith and you don’t believe in yourself.

You just let F-E-A-R decide for you. You have created an unpleasant and scary environment full of struggle, self-doubt, insecurity, and negative emotions. 

STOP making excuses and stop hesitating. If I had made some of these excuses a year ago, I would not be where I am today.

Decide what you want out of your life, and go for it!

I want you to take a minute and think about each of these women, who if they had made excuses, and said they were not good enough, they would not be where they are today: Oprah Winfrey, Rachel Hollis, J.K. Rowling – Oh my I could go on and on! Whether they fought diversity, poverty, or a personal battle, these ladies made decision after decision and chose to create their own story. 

You are not alone in this struggle. Women continue to limit themselves and make decisions that ultimately hold them back.

Here are three ways to overcome fear and empower yourself:

 

  1. Conquer the negative thoughts and tell yourself, “Not today.” Think about each argument, and understand that you can fight every battle, and handle every situation with God’s help. If you think you are wasting your time, instead think about how your life would change if you accomplished what you set out in your mind to do. If you think that something might go wrong, instead list all of the things that could happen that would could go right and ultimately be in your favor.
  2. Choose faith over fear. Whenever I have doubt, anxiety, or face a battle, I search for scriptures that show me the way. One of my favorite bible verses is Deuteronomy 31:8, which says, “He will never leave you nor forsake you; Do to be afraid, do not be discouraged.” Whenever you find yourself in a fearful situation, trust, and know that this promise is for you. 
  3. Choose the power of knowledge over fear. Fear is a normal emotion, creating hesitation and worry. I love this quote from Candice Swanepoel, “A lack of knowledge creates fear. Seeking knowledge creates courage.” If you don’t think you have what it takes, then what class can you take or what task can you accomplish to make this dream a reality? Don’t just make an excuse and halt. 

Stop living in F E A R today.
